Archbishop Prosper Kontiebo of Burkina Faso’s Catholic Archdiocese of Ouagadougou has called upon the people of God in the West African nation to trust in God, who he said “will confront” the challenges they are facing.
In his 2024 Easter Message he delivered on Sunday, March 31 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of his Metropolitan See, Archbishop Kontiebo said, “The challenges our country is going through should not make us lose confidence in God.”
“On the contrary, as believers, we know that the cross is a reality and that God himself will confront it in order to bring us salvation,” he emphasized.
The Burkinabe member of the Order of the Ministers of the Sick (M.I./Camillians) said that “the central message of Easter is that Christ is risen from the dead and alive forever” and went on to “wish a happy holiday to all Burkinabè people, particularly the sick and all those who ensure our security at the front.”
“This Easter joy is sung throughout the church. At the Easter vigil, Catholic faithful received the sacraments of baptism, first communion and confirmation,” he recalled during Easter Sunday Eucharistic celebration, and added, “If Christ is resurrected, it is because we have been resurrected with him since we were baptized.”
Archbishop Kontiebo continued, “Resurrected with Christ, we must lead a new life, that is to say, leave sin and lead a life worthy of a child of God.”
May the risen Lord “destroy the forces of evil and bring peace, joy and serenity to Burkina Faso,” the Catholic Church leader, who started his Episcopal in June 2012 as the Bishop of Burkina Faso’s Tenkodogo Diocese implored.
