Nurture Children’s Talents for God’s Greater Glory: Kenyan Archbishop to Parents, Teachers

Children need to be nurtured to grow their variety talents, all for the greater Glory of own “and for our salvation”, the Local Ordinary of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi in Kenya has told parents and teachers. 

In his homily at the awarding ceremony that Holy Innocent Tassia Catholic School in Nairobi organized on Thursday, June 22, Archbishop Philip Anyolo Subira also cautioned parents and teachers against any form of discrimination. 

“Allow and support the children to grow and nurture their talents. Every child is talented in his or her own way for God’s own greater glory and for our own salvation and sanctity,” Archbishop Anyolo said.

He added, “Every child here is a gift from God; take them uniquely and support them in a way that they will conform with the image and likeness of God.”

Archbishop Anyolo underscored the uniqueness of each of the children at the Catholic learning institution, saying, “Take them as they are so that you may combine their efforts, thoughts, and spirit to know that God is our creator, all of us.”

He went on to urge parents and teachers to identify the good in every child and help the child to develop it. Children, he said, have things to offer to the world “as they grow into the life that God has given them.”

The Kenyan Catholic Church leader who started his Episcopal Ministry in February 1996 as Bishop of Kenya’s Kericho Diocese and had been at the helm of Nairobi Archdiocese since November 2021 said in supporting a good upbringing of children, parents and teachers participate in God’s continued act of creating.

“God reveals his own presence in our midst through these children," he said, and added, “Let us help God in creating the wonders out of the nothingness through these children whom we value very much and thank God for.”

Archbishop emphasized the value of prayer in children’s upbringing, saying, “Pray for your children because the way you are praying is the way they will pray."
