The Catholic Diocese of Hwange in Zimbabwe is working in partnership with Stella Mundi, a commercial entity affiliated with the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishop’s Conference (ZCBC) to foster the Diocese’s self-reliance amid dwindling donor funds.
Following a workshop that the two entities organized, Bishop Raphael Ncube of Hwange acknowledged the efforts of Stella Mundi in fostering a self-reliant church which he said is currently facing a shortage of donors.
“The lack of funds to build institutions has necessitated the diocese’s search for alternative means of sustaining its operations,” Bishop Ncube said in a Tuesday, March 5 report, adding, “We did not see how funds to build our institutions were generated. Now we are trying to do it ourselves.”
The Bishop said the Diocese’s theme for 2024 which is “Christ our hope: A synodal journey towards a self-reliant Church,” resonates with Stella Mundi’s objective of supporting dioceses through various initiatives.
From the partnership, the Diocese of Hwange, like other dioceses in the southern African nation, will access Stella Mundi’s business partners.
