Catholic Activists in Kenya Organize “March for Life” to Promote Pro-life Policies

Catholic activists under their umbrella organization CitizenGo have organized a march around the streets of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, to shine a spotlight on policies that are harming the sanctity of life in the East African nation. 

Dubbed “March for Life”, the event slated for Saturday, March 23 aims to raise awareness on pro-life policies that should be promoted in the country.

CitizenGo Campaigns Director for Africa and the United Nations, Ann Kioko, wrote to ACI Africa on Wednesday, March 20, announcing the march that has been set to commence at 8:00 AM from the Moi Avenue Primary School in the Kenyan capital, and conclude at noon. 

The Kenyan official of CitizenGo Africa said participants in this year’s march organized under the theme,  “Defending Human Life: Advocating for Pro-Life Policies”, will “unite to defend the dignity of human life through impactful policies.”

“We believe that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, starting from the moment of conception until natural death. The aim of the event is to raise awareness and advocate for policies that uphold and protect the sanctity of life,” she said.

Participants in the march will deliberate on the 2022-2032 Reproductive Health Policy, which the Kenyan Ministry of Health launched but, according to Ms. Kioko, has “inexplicably been shelved”.

“We suspect foul play orchestrated by leftist influences,” the CitizenGo official says, and adds, “During the march, we will shine a light on this issue and call upon the Ministry of Health to reconsider their decision.”

“It is imperative that we collectively address this injustice and ensure that pro-life policies are given the attention they deserve,” she adds in her March 20 note to ACI Africa.

The Nairobi March 23 March for Life will serve as a platform to raise awareness about various threats to the dignity of human life. 

Citing policies from abortion to euthanasia, Ms. Kioko says, “We must stand together to safeguard the fundamental right to life for all individuals, irrespective of age, sex, or socioeconomic status.”
