Priests “also need our prayers”, Catholic Bishop in Kenya Says, Recognizes Sacrifices of Priests in Hardship Areas

The Bishop of Kenya’s Catholic Diocese of Nakuru has highlighted the need to pray for Priests as essential, even as people reach out to Priests to pray for them.

In his Tuesday, March 26 homily during the celebration of Chrism Mass at Christ the King Cathedral of his Episcopal See, Bishop Cleophas Oseso Tuka also recognized with appreciation the sacrifice of Priests ministering in hardship areas of the Kenyan Diocese.

“As much as we ask Priests to pray for us, let us realize that they also need our prayers; prayers that they will be faithful to their ministry, that they will continue with the courage to teach the mysteries of Jesus Christ,” Bishop Oseso said.

In praying for Priests, he said, they will be able to take the word of God to far-flung areas where it has not been preached.

The Kenyan Bishop lauded the Priests ministering in hardship areas of his Episcopal See, where inhabitants face security challenges occasioned by banditry and cattle rustling amid lack of basic social services and infrastructure.

“The good and inspired thing is the love and courage that we see in these Priests, that despite the tough conditions they work in, they are still ready to continue proclaiming the word of God,” the Kenyan Catholic Bishop said about Priests ministering in Baringo County among the Pokot.

He added, “For this reason, we want to congratulate them; we want to celebrate them because they continue the works of Jesus Christ. Even in those difficult circumstances they have not given up; they are still willing to continue.”

Bishop Oseso went on to call for synergy and collaboration in the ministry of evangelization, saying, “Let us also collaborate in this mission that Christ has put into our care; we are all anointed for a ministry.”

“We have a purpose; God has put us on earth to continue spreading the good news of salvation, to be agents of evangelization,” he emphasized, adding, “The ministry of Jesus Christ is for all of us; we must unite, put our hearts and minds together to continue this ministry.”

In his March 26 homily, Bishop Oseso also urged the people of God under his pastoral care to take personal initiatives to foster vocations to Priesthood, Religious Life, as well as family life.

“It is not just about Priests but about all of us,” the Kenyan Catholic Church leader said, and added, “We are all called to join our hands to continue ministering and continue responding to the call that Jesus Christ has given us: the call of holiness, sanctification.”
