The representative of the Holy Father in Angola has urged Catholics to entrust the new Roman Pontiff to the maternal protection of the Virgin of Muxima and the guidance of the Holy Spirit by praying the Holy Rosary every day for Pope Leo XIV.

In his homily during a Thanksgiving Mass for the May 8 election of Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost as the Catholic Church’s 267th Pontiff, Archbishop Kryspin Witold Dubiel described Pope Leo XIV as “a man of faith, of prayer, of service, with a missionary and Marian heart.”

“Let us pray the Rosary daily for Pope Leo XIV. The Pope needs our prayers, and the world needs clarity, courage, and love,” Archbishop Dubiel said during the Monday, June 30 Eucharistic celebration at Our Lady of Fatima Parish of Luanda Catholic Archdiocese.

He added, “It is not easy to carry the cross of the Papacy in today’s world.”

Archbishop Dubiel called on the people of God in Angola to take the Holy Father’s mission as part of a greater spiritual battle – one that must be fought with prayer.

“May our Mother, the Virgin of Muxima, protect him with her sacred mantle. And may the Holy Spirit always guide him on the path of truth and holiness,” he implored.

The Apostolic Nuncio continued, “May the Queen of the Rosary intercede for the Holy Father and for the entire Church, and may a cry of love, faith, and unity rise from Angola. Long live Christ the King! Long live the Virgin Mary! Long live Pope Leo XIV!”

In his June 30 homily, Archbishop Dubiel reflected on the prophetic nature of the Petrine Ministry. He said, “The Primacy is a service: the service of tending the flock of the Lord, of presiding in charity, of witnessing to Christ.”

The native of Poland’s Catholic Diocese of Przemyśl reminded those present that authority in the Church is not a privilege, but a vocation rooted in humility, solidarity, and witness.

Drawing from the figure of St. Peter, Archbishop Dubiel explained that the Pope continues Peter’s mission of confirming the faithful and proclaiming the Kingdom of Christ.

“Peter receives the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven and the power to bind and loose on earth and in heaven,” he said.

Archbishop Dubiel added, “The risk for all of us is becoming like the Pharisees, knowledgeable, yet far from the humility and gentleness of Jesus’ heart.”

“It is not enough to know the Gospel; we must live it with simplicity of heart and fraternal communion,” he said.
