In Launched Strategic Plan, Catholic Sisters in Kenya to Engage in “income-generating media services” to Raise Funds

AOSK launched CNCS in June 2024 at a ceremony at Radix Hotel in Nairobi’s Karen area that was preceded by a two-day workshop during which 13 Catholic Sisters drawn from AOSK member Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (ICLSAL) were trained.

In her speech during the 14 June 2024 launch, the Chairperson of the Board of Management of AOSK, Sr. Josephine Kangogo, expressed joy for the communication initiative that was realized in partnership with the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.

“The launch of this Communications Network is not just about technology or media. It is about creating a space where our voices can be heard, where our stories can inspire, and where our collective efforts can lead to meaningful change,” Sr. Kangogo said.

The Kenyan-born member of the Religious Institute of the  Daughters of the Sacred Heart (DSH) said with CNCS realizing its mission, “the apostolates of Catholic Sisters in Kenya will be promoted through increased media visibility.”

At the unveiling of the CNCS five-year Strategic Plan on August 23, Sr. Michelle emphasized that the communication initiative aims to strengthen the voice, identity, and contributions of Catholic Sisters through strategic communication, capacity building, partnerships, and technological innovation.

“We are also continuing to cover stories of social interest in different parts of the country, especially the marginalized areas,” the CNCS Director said, and added, “We will continue to strengthen our social media presence and use the media for evangelization and advocacy.”

“We look forward to institutional strengthening,” she further said, and expressing optimism in the success of CNCS into the future, disclosed, “We are going to have more employees joining, more people coming in, so that the vision and the dream of Catholic Sisters in Kenya and beyond will continue to grow.”

The alumna of the Institute of Social Communication (ISC) of Tangaza University (TU) continued, “We look forward to strengthening partnerships and collaboration, especially in the media industry.”

In the future, she said, “We look forward to fostering unity ... building donor relationships and partnering with like-minded organizations.”

Meanwhile, in his remarks at the August 23 ceremony, the Executive Director of the Constitution and Reform Education Consortium (CRECO) Kenya, Joshua Changwony,  lauded the collaboration between CRECO and CNCS.

Mr. Changwony recognized the efforts of CNCS leadership in fostering the collaboration, including involving him in the training of “a number of Catholic Sisters on the monster called misinformation, disinformation, and digital security.”

In the face of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its tools, Mr. Changwony said, “we get to create awareness, train people on the use of these technology platforms, including social media, because social media companies now are thriving in this world.”
