Blantyre, 11 December, 2025 / 4:31 pm (ACI Africa).
The National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Malawi has welcomed his Vatican appointment as the National Delegate for World Children’s Day (WCD) 2026, noting that his nomination is good news for the Church in the Southern African nation, especially for children.
In a Wednesday, December 10 interview with ACI Africa, Fr. Ephraim Peter Madeya said his nomination as delegate for the event scheduled for 25–27 September 2026 in Rome demonstrates the Vatican’s recognition of the good work the Church in Malawi is doing for children.
“It is good news to the church of Malawi, especially to children, because in the coming 2026 WCD, Malawi will be represented. Not less than ten children and one animator who will fulfill the requirements that they will be given will go to Rome next year,” Fr. Madeya said following his appointment that was made official on November 20.
The Malawian Priest, who is also the National Chaplain of the Catholic Women Association and the Laity in Malawi, added, “Each diocese will be given a chance to send a child representing their diocese. This is a good opportunity for the children in our country.”
Fr. Madeya’s role, according to the November 20 letter from the Vatican confirming his appointment, is to foster broader participation and strengthen diocesan involvement.
