The Director of Cardinal Rugambwa Hospital has announced that celebrations marking forty years since the establishment of the health facility in Tanzania’s Catholic Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam, are aimed at strengthening healthcare services for mothers and children.
According to a Tuesday, January 20 Tumaini Media report, Sr. Dr. Sara Kahumbya Deogratius said that the hospital, which is managed by the Missionary Sisters of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, plans to raise one billion Tanzanian shillings ($392927308.00) to facilitate the construction of a Mother and Child Care facility.
“The main focus of this year’s 40th anniversary celebrations is the construction of a Mother and Child Care building,” Sr. Kahumbya said during the official launch of the anniversary celebrations scheduled for July 9.
She added, “Through various stakeholders who love and use this hospital, together with us who lead it, we have resolved to raise one billion shillings as part of the total cost of the building we plan to construct.”
“These celebrations are also a moment to honor and remember our founder,” the Catholic Sister said on January 20 in a separate report, referring to the late Laurean Cardinal Rugambwa, who served as Archbishop of the Dar-es-Salaam Archdiocese from 1968 to 1992.
