The Auxiliary Bishop of Guinea-Bissau who has been serving at the Apostolic Administrator of the same Episcopal See has been appointed the Local Ordinary of the Catholic Diocese that is headquartered in the capital city of the West African nation.
The appointment of Bishop José Lampra Cà was made public by the Holy See Press Office Friday, December 10.
Bishop Lampra Cà who had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop since his Episcopal Ordination in November 2011 is expected to succeed Bishop José Câmnate na Bissign, the first native Bishop in the two-Diocese nation of Guinea-Bissau.
Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Bishop Câmnate Na Bissign on 11 July 2020, the same day he appointed Bishop Lampra Cà the Apostolic Administrator of Bissau.
Bishop Câmnate na Bissign resigned at the age of 67 reportedly due to “health reasons, which would make it difficult to fully comply with the administrative commitments of the office of Bishop of Bissau.”
