Young people in Mauritius are expected to welcome Pope Francis to the Monument of Mary Queen of Peace dressed in the colors of his favorite soccer team, Club San Lorenzo de Almagro.

The red and blue t-shirts will flood the venue of the Public Papal Mass in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius where the Holy Father will be on September 9.

It is an initiative of the Diocesan Service for Youth Ministry and Vocations.

A Mauritian family has sponsored part of the cost of the t-shirts to allow young people from all parishes to have a unique souvenir with the Holy Father.

In Mauritius, the Holy Father will also have lunch with the bishops of the Episcopal Conference of the Indian Ocean, visit Father Laval's sanctuary before meeting the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.

To conclude his journey, the Pontiff will address the authorities, civil society and the diplomatic corps before heading back to Madagascar from where he is expected to jet back to Rome the following day.

ACI Africa was officially inaugurated on August 17, 2019 as a continental Catholic news agency at the service of the Church in Africa. Headquartered in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, this media apostolate will strive to facilitate the telling of Africa’s story by providing media coverage of Catholic events on the African continent, giving visibility to the activities of the Church across Africa where statistics show significant growth in numbers and the continent gradually becoming the axis of Catholicism. This is expected to contribute to an awareness of and appreciation for the significant role of the Church in Africa and over time, the realization of a realistic image of Africa that often receives negative media framing.
