“Due to climate change, political and economic constraints in our country thousands of our people today are vulnerable,” he says, and making reference to the challenges flood victims in his Episcopal See face, adds, “What people are going through right now needs the mercy of God to help them overcome the challenges.”
The 49-year-old South Sudanese Bishop who has been the Local Ordinary of Malakal Diocese since his Episcopal Ordination in July 2019 further urges the government to declare the devastating floods “a national disaster.”
“I am calling on our government of South Sudan to come out openly and declare the floods a national disaster,” Bishop Nyodho says.
He expresses his appreciation to Caritas South Sudan and other partners “for the humble services to the people of God in different locations across the country.”
“We are grateful for the immediate intervention despite the scarcity of resources to help the vulnerable people who want as much assistance as possible,” Bishop Nyodho whose Diocese of Malakal is one of the areas most affected by the floods adds.
The Catholic Bishop further says, “Caritas South Sudan proved to be the loving mother who day and night under unbearable situations took care of our children and the people suffering.”
“We have distributed food to the affected people in the town in our Diocese,” the South Sudanese Bishop says, adding, “I hope that one day we will come out from such emergencies and try to plan and see to it that development will come to these places despite all the challenges.”
