Catholic Diocese in Nigeria Constructing Chapel in Prison to Provide “solace” to Inmates

“Recognizing the need for spiritual nourishment and moral support is a compelling need to address within the prison community," Bishop Mamza said.

The Nigerian Bishop who has been recognized widely for his peace initiatives in the West African nation said, the Chapel will also serve “as a symbol of hope and resilience.”

“The construction of the Chapel represents a tangible investment in the well-being of the inmates, signifying a commitment to their holistic rehabilitation and reintegration into society. By providing a space for religious observance and reflection will give the inmates a sense of purpose and belonging,”  Bishop Mamza said.

The Catholic Bishop who has been at the helm of Yola Diocese since his Episcopal Ordination in April 2011 further said, “The construction of the Chapel at Yolde Pate Prison is not only an expression of compassion but also a demonstration of the transformative power of faith.”

“It provides a space for inmates to practice their religious beliefs, seek forgiveness, and find hope for the future. By creating a conducive environment for spiritual reflection and worship, the Chapel offers an opportunity for rehabilitation and personal growth among the incarcerated individuals,” Bishop Mamza said.
