Bishops in Malawi have confirmed the appointment of Fr. Ephraim Peter Madeya as the National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) by the pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
In a Tuesday, January 16 statement, members of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) officially announced the appointment for the position that became vacant following the appointment of Mons. Vincent Frederick Mwakhwawa as the Auxiliary Bishop for the country’s Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe.
The appointment of Mons. Mwakhwawa whose consecration is scheduled for Saturday, January 20 was made public on Wednesday, November 15, and published by the Holy See Press Office on the same day.
Fr. Peter who has been appointed to take his position was born in October 1981 and ordained as a Priest for the Catholic Diocese of Dedza in August 2011.
He has served as deputy Parish Priest and Parish Priest in two Parishes. He also served as the deputy Secretary and Secretary for the Diocesan Projects Commission.
Before this appointment, Fr. Peter was the diocesan director of the PMS and president of the Diocesan Finance, Investments, and Administration (FIA) board.
In the January 16 statement, the ECM Secretary General, Fr. Valeriano Mtseka congratulated Fr. Peter for the appointment that was made in September last year.
“On behalf of ECM, I take this opportunity to congratulate and wish Fr. Madeya God’s blessings as he takes up his new position at the National level,” Fr. Mtseka said.
