Catholic activists at CitizenGo are calling upon African governments to reject the digital ID system, noting that the system, which allows individuals and organisations to prove their identity electronically, is “a trap” disguised as progress.
In a petition shared with ACI Africa on Monday, November 24, the activists warned that the language used to promote the technology is carefully crafted to mislead countries into adopting it, concealing its potentially controlling and harmful effects.
“Africa is getting dangerously close to adopting a Digital ID system, one already being tested worldwide,” the Catholic activists say, and add, “It’s not progress. It’s a trap. Programmable, traceable, and weaponizable.”
The officials urge African governments to be vigilant as such technologies begin with the “so-called upgrade,” and a promise of convenience, but behind it lies “a control system that can decide who can work, speak, or travel.”
The activists say that the system is already in use in some African countries, and it’s done through “a coordinated push to centralise power and quietly trade your freedom for ‘safety’ wrapped in the comforting language of ‘innovation.’”
The Catholic activists highlight the disadvantages of the system, saying it will affect daily life, as work, travel, healthcare, and even worship could require system approval.
If adopted, the system will also encourage surveillance by default, the activists say, and explain that purchases, movements, and opinions will not only be monitored but will also be stored.
The Catholic activists say that the system will further encourage “punishment for dissent”, where fines, bans, or blocks will be applied to views that will be labelled as “misinformation.”
Financial control will also be a consequence of African governments adopting the system, the Catholic activists say and explain that such control will be “tied to digital currencies, so your money can be limited or switched off.”
“The worst part? A Digital ID hands them the legal infrastructure to execute their globalist and ideological agenda without needing public consent,” they say and explain that this will be done whether an individual agrees or not.
They warn that all that the proponents of the system need is the government’s cooperation, and once a global Digital ID goes live, then “the globalists won’t need your permission—or even your country’s government.”
The activists further explain the dangers associated with the system, especially when “digital control meets ideology.”
“In Canada, during the 2022 ‘Freedom Truckers Convoy,’ banks blocked and froze hundreds of protesters’ accounts at the behest of the Left-wing government, leaving some without access to medical and living funds overnight. No warning,” they say.
They add, “Africa's governments are accelerating the roll-out, but we can still slam the brakes if we act together now. CitizenGO is already on the front lines: exposing hidden agendas, rallying citizens, and forcing leaders to back down.”
“Together, we’ve already delayed treaties, blocked laws, and made governments think twice before trading freedom for control,” the Catholic activists say.
