The planned Jubilee of 150 years of Evangelization in Guinea is expected to foster faith, reconciliationn and hope, Catholic Bishops in the West African nation have said.

In a statement issued Thursday, January 15, members of the Episcopal Conference of Guinea (CEG) invite Priests, women and men Religious, the lay faithful, and all people of good will to participate in this historic spiritual celebration.

“The Episcopal Conference of Guinea invites you to live a Holy Year in all the Dioceses of the Church in Guinea,” CEG members say in the statement shared with ACI Africa.

They add, “It is a Jubilee, that is, a year to raise cries of joy: joy at encountering Christ, joy at belonging to His Church, joy at being reconciled with God and with our brothers and sisters, joy at moving forward together into deeper waters.”

The Jubilee’s theme, “150 Years of History in Hope, from Memory to Mission,” CEG members say, emphasizes both the Church’s historical journey and its ongoing commitment to evangelization.

“Such an event allows us to come together to celebrate what was done before us, what is being celebrated now, and what will be done tomorrow for the salvation of the people of this country and for the glory of God,” the Catholic Church leaders say.

They add, “One hundred and fifty years is something to be celebrated in thanksgiving and exultation.”

CEG members further announce that the Jubilee Year will be solemnly opened in each Diocese on February 8.

“The high point will be the national pilgrimage to the site of Boffa, from April 30 to May 3,” they say, adding that “our Year of grace will conclude once again in Boffa from November 11 to 14, 2027.”

CEG members note that “these two gatherings in Boffa will be organized respectively by the National Episcopal Coordination of the Jubilee of the 150 Years, presided over by Bishop Moïse Tinguiano of Boké Catholic Diocese.”

They implore, “May all the prayers we shall offer during this Holy Year find favor before God, now and forever and ever. Amen.”
