Salesians Empowering Dozens of Youth in Southern Africa Through Filmmaking Initiative

The filmmaking initiative that the members of the Religious Institute of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) have spearheaded in the Catholic Archdiocese of Lusaka in Zambia is benefiting dozens of youth from three Southern African countries.

In a Monday, August 8 report, the leadership of Salesian Missions, the U.S.-based development arm of SDB, says that filmmaking experts from India were invited to train the youth who are particularly passionate about the film industry. 

“The 40 students from Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia are receiving training in film directing, script writing, sound designing and sound editing, as well as interpersonal skills,” officials of the New York-based entity say in the report.

In the August 8 report, the Director of Salesian Missions, Fr. Gus Baek, underscores the value of the training.

“Training like this is important for youth who are passionate about a field of study,” Fr. Gus Baek is quoted as saying about the capacity building initiative that is being realized at the Salesian center in Bauleni in Lusaka, Zambia.

“Giving youth the opportunity to learn directly from experts in the field is a great way to ignite their passions and help them learn the skills needed for future employment in their chosen field,” Fr. Baek further says about the training initiatives that has delegates from Enso pictures in India and Oram Film Academy among the trainers.
