Adoption of Family Protection Policy in Kenya “a major milestone”: Christian Professionals

Members of the Kenya Christian Professional Forum (KCPF) have welcomed the approval of the National Policy on family promotion and protection describing it as “a major milestone” for the people of God in the East African nation.

The Tuesday, October 3 Kenya’s Cabinet dispatch announcing the approved reads in part, “In affirmation of the solemn duty of the state to protect the family as the fundamental unit of the society and the necessary basis of social order, the cabinet considered and approved the National Policy on family promotion and protection.”

The policy identifies challenges that affect the family and undertakes to address them by providing guidelines on what the government, partnering with other stakeholders, seeks to do to realize the objectives of the policy.

In a Thursday, October 5 statement, KCPF members say they are "honored" to have been part of the process of the development of the approved policy.

"We were elated to learn that the National Policy on Family Promotion and Protection has been adopted by the Cabinet as official Government Policy," KCPF members say in the statement that their Chairman, Charles Kanjama, signed.

The Christian professionals in Kenya say the adoption of the policy "is a major milestone for the country." 

They add that it is "a testament of a commitment of the government to play its cardinal role and work closely with other stakeholders to protect and promote the institution of the family and position it well to play its role in society".

The policy, KCPF members continue, "will be a benchmark for other nations in the region and beyond.”

The family is the oldest natural human institution, and needs to be a source of comfort and support for the human person, they further say.

The Christian Professionals in Kenya call on all stakeholders to support the effective implementation of the Family Policy. 

“We equally appeal to the relevant state agencies to be guided by the Family Policy as they develop various programs and allocate resources. The Family Policy will go a long way towards promoting peaceful coexistence and a society that is values-driven,” they say.

On their part, KCPF members pledge to support and monitor its implementation. 

They add, “We will also provide periodic updates on the progress, gains, and challenges to enrich its success. In the next few weeks, we shall release the 2023 edition of the KCPF State of Life, Family and Faith Report, as a further step towards achieving this goal of supporting policymakers in the area of family and family values.”
