Prayer Appeal Following Death of Catholic Bishop of Kaga-Bandoro Diocese in CAR on Easter Sunday

Prayers are being sought for the repose of the soul of the Local Ordinary of Kaga-Bandoro Diocese in the Central African Republic (CAR) who died on Easter Sunday 2024 at the age of 72.

In a statement issued Sunday, March 31, Dieudonné Cardinal Nzapalainga announces with “deep sorrow” the passing on of Bishop Zbigniew Tadeusz Kusy.

In the statement, Cardinal Nzapalainga says he “joins the Priests, Religious men and women and the faithful of the Archdiocese of Bangui in offering their condolences to the Church family of God in Kaga-Bandoro, to the Order of Franciscan Friars Minor in Bangui and to the entire family of our late Pastor.”

He assures the people of God in the Kaga-Bandoro Diocese of his spiritual solidarity during this time of sorrow following the passing on of their Local Ordinary.

The Archbishop of Bangui invites the entire people of God in CAR to “offer prayers” for the response of the soul of the late Polish-born member of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin (O.F.M. Cap.).

Late Bishop Kusy OFM was born in December 1951 in Cieszyn, Poland. He entered the Order of the Minor Brothers in the Province of the Assumption in August 1969 and was ordained a Priest in April 1976.

After a two-year pastoral service in Poland, he went on missions to Zaire (present-day Democratic Republic of Congo), where he served from 1979 to 1986. Subsequently, after graduating from the Institute of Religious Sciences and Theology in Paris in 1989, he was commissioned to CAR.

In May 2014, late Bishop Kusy was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of the Kaga-Bandoro Diocese, and succeeded Bishop Albert Vanbuel in September 2015.
