The Don Bosco Hospitality Center in Rwanda’s Catholic Archdiocese of Kigali that is under the auspices of the Religious Institute of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) aims to empower “next generation of leaders and innovators” in the hospitality industry.

In a report published by MissionNewswire, the official news service of Salesian Missions, which is the U.S.-based development arm of SDB, SDB officials say the training initiative will also help to generate income for Salesian Programs in the landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa.

“We are committed to training the next generation of leaders and innovators in the hospitality industry,” Fr. Pierre Celestin Ngoboka, Provincial Superior of the Africa of the Great Lakes Salesian Province, is quoted as saying in the Wednesday, May 22 report.

Fr. Ngoboka adds, “Through the training programs at the Don Bosco Hospitality Center, we aim to empower our students with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to succeed in this dynamic field.”

Don Bosco Hospitality Center has 35 rooms, a restaurant and a multi-functional hall with a capacity of about 600 people, the report indicates about the facility that seeks to offer classroom learning alongside “hands-on preparation” through the hospitality services made open to the general public.

“Apart from training, the center is well-positioned to offer quality and advanced hospitality services to all persons who are willing to use the facility,” Fr. Ngoboka is further quoted as saying.

As Rwanda emerges as a hub for tourism and hospitality, the report indicates, the Salesian center “represents a significant stride toward meeting the growing demand for skilled talent” in the hospitality industry.

In her speech at the grand opening ceremony of the center last month, the German ambassador to Rwanda is said to have lauded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of vocational training in the country’s development.

Ambassador Heike Uta Dettmann is also said to have highlighted the significance of providing hands-on training for youths, who she said may not have had the opportunity to travel or gain practical experience in the hospitality sector.

“I’m very happy that the German government is cooperating in financial support with the education system in Rwanda, and this specific jewel of teenage education aligns with the needs of the country and its young population,” Ambassador Dettmann is quoted as saying.
