The Holy Trinity can be a source of inspiration for Generation Z (Gen Z) individuals in overcoming the challenge of greed and fostering unity in diversity, Bishop Simon Peter Kamomoe, one of the Auxiliary Bishops of Kenya's Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi (ADN) has said.

In Sunday, June 15 homily at the Holy Trinity Buruburu Parish, Bishop Kamomoe lauded Kenyan Gen Zs for their solidarity and boldness in championing reforms in their country.

“I love the youths; I love these Gen-Zs because of their unity. They call each other cousins, and when you touch one, you've touched them all. That is very good. But I pray that your unity will be for a good purpose,” Bishop Kamomoe said on June 15, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

The Kenyan Catholic Bishop cautioned young people against allowing their unity to be manipulated but rather use it constructively as agents of justice and compassion.

“Don’t let anyone misuse your unity. Our young people are very powerful, but we pray that the Holy Spirit will help you use that unity for deeds that please God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,” he said at Holy Trinity Buruburu Parish, where he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 90 candidates

Bishop Kamomoe decried the reported rise in cases of tribalism and selfishness in Kenya, which he said are root causes of disunity and social decay.

“Let us cast out the spirit of greed because it is what has destroyed Kenya. Kenya lacks unity because many of us are led by selfishness,” he lamented.

He lauded Gen Zs for defending each other when faced with social injustice, and explained, “They are not tribal. A tribalistic person cannot participate in the Holy Trinity. You must see every person as a child of God. Even if you're Kikuyu, you must see others as children of God, just like you, if you truly participate in the Holy Trinity.”

“All of us should enjoy the unity of the Holy Trinity, no matter our tribe,” Bishop Kamomoe reiterated.

He went on to denounce corruption in Kenya, noting that it is promoted by those who undermine the values of the Holy Trinity and lack empathy. “Even those who were created by God and shared in the Holy Trinity, some rejected it and went astray. You can be created well and still lose that gift,” he said.

The Kenyan Catholic Bishop called upon parents and guardians to enhance unity and good relationships between family members. “You can see the three parts at home, the father, the mother, and the children, just like God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Your children must respect you parents. All young people, we should respect our parents because we need them and they need us,” he said.

Bishop Kamomoe urged youths to spread the love they are experiencing in their families to the orphans to promote the Holy Trinity to others. “And through this, you will continue to live in a state of grace,” he said.

“Don’t give the devil a chance to destroy unity in your family. Mothers, wives, and fathers continue to pray together. When you pray together, you strengthen your unity, united in God’s love. A family that prays together stays together,” the Kenyan Catholic Bishops said on June 15.

Meanwhile, Bishop Kamomoe urged the candidates for confirmation to allow the Holy Spirit to guide them in their lives, especially in this new technological era.

“Even when you see things on social media or TikTok, may the Holy Spirit guide you so that you know the difference between good and evil,” he said, adding, “Because of the Holy Spirit, you will be enlightened and know what is evil and what is good. Follow what God loves.”

He also told them to understand the role of the different gifts of the Holy Spirit, which will guide them in making the right decisions in their lives.

“When in doubt, invoke the Holy Spirit and leave behind all bad behaviors, jealousy, corruption, tribalism, pride,” he said in his June 15 homily.

Bishop Kamomoe highlighted three essential practices for the candidates: participating in the Sacrament of Penance at least twice a month, attending Mass daily, and showing love for Mother Mary.
