Members of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM) have welcomed the elevation of the Rwanda-Burundi region to a Province and the subsequent appointment of its current Regional Superior Fr. Fabien Gasigwa as its first Provincial.
In a Tuesday, July 22 report, the JCAM President Fr. José Minaku called for spiritual solidarity with the new Provincial and his confreres in the newly created Society of Jesus’(Jesuits/SJ) Province as they continue “to build a future rooted in faith, committed to justice, and open to hope.”
“As the leadership transition unfolds, we invite all to accompany Fr. Fabien and the Jesuits of Rwanda-Burundi in prayer, that they may continue to grow in their mission of faith, justice, and reconciliation,” Fr. Minaku said.
He described the appointment Fr. Fabien to head the new Province as “a significant moment for the Society of Jesus in the Continent of Africa” entrusting the new leader to God’s grace as he shepherds the new Province in wisdom, discernment, and charity.
The first Provincial of the newly created Province, which takes effect from July 31, joined the Religious Institute of the Society of Jesus in 1993, and was ordained to the Priesthood in 2006.
