Manzini, 29 August, 2025 / 3:59 pm (ACI Africa).
The Local Ordinary of Eswatini’s Catholic Diocese of Manzini has expressed satisfaction with the progress of preparations for the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Inter-Regional Meeting of the Bishops of Southern Africa (IMBISA).
Speaking during a Wednesday, August 27 press briefing on the planned IMBISA Jubilee scheduled for September, Bishop José Luís Gerardo Ponce de León said that he and the people of God in Eswatini’s only Catholic Diocese “are very excited” to host the six-day event.
“As I shared recently during our pilgrimage, I am not afraid of the task before us. While it is a great responsibility to be the only Diocese in the country, I am confident,” Bishop Luís said, reiterating the preparedness for the September 24–29 gathering that is to bring together 120 delegates drawn from the nine countries of IMBISA, including Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, Clergy, women and men Religious, and Laity.
He added, “Whenever we have had to organize something as a Catholic Church in Eswatini, we have never encountered difficulties.”
He acknowledged that most of the preparations are set and went on to invite the members of the press for the official opening session of the event, during which IMBISA members, comprising Local Ordinaries in Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe are to have their 14th Plenary Assembly.
