St. Francis Community Hospital of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi (ADN) in Kenya is set to launch a medical training college, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenyan health facility has said.

In her remarks during the Thursday, October 2 Eucharistic celebration in anticipation of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi marked on October 4,  Sr. Esther Wairimu Mwangi expressed optimism about the realization of the initiative that she said would be instrumental in building the capacity of medical professionals.

“We are very proud to announce that we are establishing our very own St. Francis Community Hospital Training College, a milestone that will shape healthcare capacity for years to come,” Sr. Esther said in a speech that the Director of Medical Services at the Level Five hospital, Dr. Victoria Jebet, read out.

She added, “We celebrate our role as a hub of knowledge with collaborations with institutions of higher learning and also as an internship training center where we are nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.”

In her speech, Sr. Esther also reflected on the achievements of the health facility over the past year, including a successful rigorous inspection by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), a government regulator for the training and practice of medicine and dentistry.

“Our hospital successfully underwent a recent inspection; we passed, and we have maintained our status as a Level Five hospital,” she said and added, “This year also marks the launch of the new specialized services, the Oncology Department.”

She expressed her joy that the new department is now taking critical cancer care closer to patients and the community, noting that the hospital’s Renal and Dialysis Department has registered significant growth.

“We are planning to serve patients with three dialysis cycles daily,” she said during the event held at the hospital’s premises in Kenya’s Capital Nairobi, explaining that with the current 10-bed capacity, the health facility looks forward to attending to more patients.

The member of the Congregation of the Little Sisters of St. Francis (LOSF) expressed “gratitude for the remarkable journey of our hospital,” noting that the year had been marked by “God’s abundant blessings and the fruits of teamwork and commitment.”

The CEO went on to attribute the steady growth in specialized services to “the spirit of excellence, unity, and resilience that defines the St. Francis family” and paid tribute to staff and partners for their commitment.

Recalling the words of the hospital’s patron saint, ‘For it is in giving that we receive,’ Sr. Easther went on to encourage them to continue offering their service to people of God with compassion and faith.

She said, “Together as we give our service, compassion, and dedication, we receive the blessings of growth, impact, and prosperity.”

“So may the Lord continue to guide us as we touch lives and serve communities with faith, love, and commitment. May God bless you all," Sr. Esther implored during the event, held on October 3 in anticipation of the October 4 feast day of the hospital’s patron saint.
