“Being a Priest means being the living presence of Christ in the midst of the community. Closeness to the people requires attention, love, and constant availability. Every gesture, every word, and every action must reflect the tenderness of God,” he said.

The Catholic Church leader went on to emphasize that the Priesthood finds its meaning not only in the celebration of the sacraments but in the witness of life shared with the people.

“A Priest does not exist for himself. He is called to walk with his people, to share their joys and sorrows, and to accompany every believer on the journey of faith. Proximity is the heart of our ministry,” Bishop Camuto said.

He urged the new Priests to remain close to their communities, warning against detachment or clerical distance.

“We cannot be distant shepherds. Our mission is to know the life of our flock, to listen, console, and offer guidance. It is through daily presence that true spiritual leadership is built,” he said.

Bishop Camuto further reminded the Priests-elect that their vocation demands authenticity, generosity, and perseverance.

“The Priestly vocation is a call to service and complete self-giving. Being close to the people strengthens the priest’s heart and renews his faith. Every challenge becomes an opportunity to practice patience, charity, and leadership by example,” he said.

He went on to emphasize that the Priestly ministry cannot exist in isolation from the people.

“Intimacy with God is manifested in closeness to the community. Every word of comfort, every gesture of help, every presence offered is the concrete expression of Christian love,” he said.

Encouraging perseverance, he reminded the Priests-elect that the path of Priesthood is marked by sacrifice but filled with grace.

“Persevere with love, care for every person, and keep the flame of faith and hope alive,” he said.

He called for continuous formation and fidelity to prayer and Scripture, saying, “Faithful commitment to prayer, study, and spiritual discipline prepares the priest to guide and inspire the community. Knowledge and daily practice of faith are essential for strengthening the Church,” said.
