Bishop Mark Kadima Wamukoya of the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma has urged the people of God in Uganda to embrace teamwork as a pathway to overcoming despair and finding fulfillment in life.

In his Tuesday, October 28 homily during the 71st Anniversary celebration of  St. Jude Thaddeus Devotion in Uganda’s Kampala Catholic Archdiocese,  Bishop Kadima reflected on the readings of the day and said that to achieve  ones desires in life, three key attitudes are needed: community, prayer, and humility.

“If there are certain things that you need and cannot be fulfilled, you need St. Jude Thaddeus. The first thing you do is what Jesus did. Jesus was God, but he sought the help of men, the help of others, the help of companions, the help of friends. Live and work with the others,” Bishop Kadima said during Holy Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Jude- Nagullu Parish of Kampala Archdiocese.

He urged the people of God in Uganda to emulate Jesus Christ, who built a team that helped him solve some of the challenges he was experiencing despite his Godly nature. “That is how you are going to solve despair; that is how you are going to solve problems; that is how you are going to be tranquil,” the Kenyan Catholic Bishop said.

Referring to the teachings of Jesus on teamwork, Bishop Kadima cautioned against self-sufficiency and isolation, encouraging people of God to collaborate with others in different aspects of their lives to avoid desperation.

“Learn to sit with the others, eat with the others, stay with them, converse with them, and above all, work with them,” the Bishop said, and added, “Jesus sought the disciples, chose 12 of them, to call them companions, apostles, helpers, friends, and that is what helps us to solve problems.”

The Local Ordinary of Bungoma underscored the importance of teamwork, emphasizing that it solves the needs of the people and even in avoiding problems because of others’ guidance.

“Be a neighbor, have others, have friends, have people you work with. If you are a person who cannot work with anybody, everyone who comes is wrong, everyone who comes is wrong, you are going to create all problems everywhere, for yourself and for others,” he said.

Bishop Kadima urged the people of God at the Pilgrimage to remain steadfast in prayer, especially when faced with challenges, just like Jesus Christ did.

“That is how you solve problems. That is how you win over despair. Seek the blessings of God,” he said.

“My dear brothers and sisters, to do the impossible, look for blessings. Don't think you know everything, you are able. Let people bless you. Let parents bless you. Let friends bless you. Seek blessings from your enemies. Let everyone bless you. Everything you begin, seek blessings,” he added.

Bishop Kadima noted that prayer not only strengthens individuals but also ensures the success of their missions, just as Jesus prayed for His disciples before beginning His ministry.

He further urged the people of God to embrace humility and encouraged them to continue building on the foundations of support laid by those who came before.

He urged them to embrace the apostles who supported each other in humility to overcome despair, saying, “Build on the others.”

He urged the people of God to appreciate the work of their predecessors and to avoid pride and condemnation.

“Don’t remove everything.  Don’t say he did nothing, she did nothing, she was useless, he was useless. You are causing despair. People are sad,” he said.

“You have come to make people happy. Build on what is there. Be united with the others who have gone before you. You are not going to be God to create a new. Don’t be proud. Be humble. Say, what you have done is good,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bishop Kadima expressed his “deep condolences,” to all the people of God in Uganda for the loss of their Bishop, Charles Martin Wamika.

Bishop  Wamika of the Catholic Diocese of Jinja in Uganda passed on on October 22 at the age of 72.
