“No voice is insignificant”: Kenyan Bishop Urges Catholic Communicators to Embrace Collaboration and Capacity Building

According to the Local Ordinary of Kenya’s Military Ordinariate, deepening collaboration requires breaking down barriers, sharing resources, and even providing training.

“Learning from one another, recognizing the mission is greater than any single person, office, or media house,” he said, and called on Catholic communicators to stand in solidarity with one another “especially in moments of moral and ethical challenges.”

The Bishop further emphasized that building capacity is essential in a rapidly changing digital world, “where information reaches the audience instantly, whether it is false or true.”

The KCCB official urged the Catholic communicators to equip themselves with knowledge and skills and discernment to evangelize effectively, calling for continuous formation in theology, catechesis, and communication ethics.

He also called for a responsible mastery of new technologies, as well as the strengthening of creative content that is “doctrinally sound, culturally sensitive, and spiritually nourishing.”

Bishop Wallace underscored the importance of embracing collaboration and capacity building among Catholic communicators, saying that such a practice can transform from “mere broadcasting into transformative ministry.”

“Our networks become instruments of grace, capable of forming hearts, inspiring virtue, and building a culture rooted in truth, justice, and love,” he said.

He reminded communicators to remain aligned with “the mind of the Church leadership that guides the purpose of the social media” at all levels for them to perform well in their apostolate.

“Those under the leadership of the Diocese, always know the mind of your Bishop. The same for those under congregations, know the intention of your General Superiors or the council. At the national level, always know the mind of the KCCB, while at the universal level always know the mind of the Church,” the Bishop said, and cautioned, “Never sit on your desk and do things as if you are autonomous.”

The Kenyan Church leader described the vocation of Catholic communicators as both a gift and a responsibility, saying, “Church looks to us as her modern apostles of the airwaves, evangelists with microphones and cameras, carrying Christ to the ends of the earth.”

“Let us always play our role inspired by the Word, strengthened by faith, and united in mission, so that through our communication, the truth of the Gospel may resound from every frequency, every screen, and every write-up,” he added.

He entrusted the work of communicators to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace and Star of Evangelization.
