Kenyan Archbishop to be Installed, Auxiliary Bishop for Benguela in Angola Appointed

The appointment of Msgr. Estêvão Binga who has been serving as Rector of the Major Seminary of Theology of Benguela was published by the Holy See Press Office Wednesday, November 3.

Born in Angola’s Lubango Archdiocese in September 1966, Msgr. Binga was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Benguela in April 1996. 

Prior to his ordination to the Priesthood, the Bishop-elect attended the Bom Pastor Seminary and the Cristo Rei Seminary in Huambo Diocese for his studies in Philosophy and Theology respectively.

He holds a bachelors, licentiate and doctorate degree in Dogmatic Theology from the Faculty of Theology of Northern Spain.

As a Priest, Msgr. Binga has served in various capacities including Prefect of discipline in the Preparatory Seminary in Benguela Diocese, collaborator in the Parish of Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes and President of the Diocesan Commission for Study and Refresher Sessions and teacher in various institutions of higher learning.

Bishop-elect Binga has been assigned the titular see of Nasbinca.

Once ordained, the Bishop-elect is expected to assist Bishop António Francisco Jaca in shepherding the people of God in the 40,626 square kilometer Diocese that is part of the Metropolitan See of Huambo. 

The Angolan Diocese that was erected in June 1970 has a population of 1,865,770 Catholics, according to Catholic Hierarchy.
