Animosity among Church Members “like a time bomb”: Catholic Priest in South Sudan

He continued, “We all know there are differences among ourselves but we should not allow (them) to continue. It is our responsibility as Christians to bring this to an end.”

The South Sudanese Catholic Priest called on the people of God in the world’s youngest country to reach out to each other with advice, saying, “As Christians, we need to continue with the love among ourselves because this is what we have to be as Christians.”

“We should continue to witness the life of Jesus Christ as believers and this is the right way we are supposed to follow,” Fr. Angutuwa said in his April 18 homily, and added, “We need to continue supporting ourselves because the Church is standing with us.”

The Vicar General of Yei Diocese emphasized the need to pray for unity in the Church and community, saying, “Without committing ourselves to prayers, we can’t overcome the evil within us and our surroundings.”

He called on the people of God in the East-Central African nation to be united like the disciples of Jesus.

“The disciples who witnessed the resurrection of the Lord were united; their work in the church was smooth because they also encouraged (each other),” Fr. Angutuwa said.

He added, “All of us regardless of our religions, tribes and other affiliations should work for unity in this country and the community.”
