Pope Francis Accepts Resignation of Auxiliary Bishop of Uganda’s Fort Portal Diocese

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Joseph Mugenyi Sabiiti, who has been serving as the Auxiliary Bishop of Uganda’s Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal since his Episcopal Ordination in April 1999.

The acceptance of the resignation of the Ugandan Catholic Bishop who celebrated his 75th birthday in May was published by the Holy See Press office on Saturday, July 8.

Born in Nyansozi in Fort Portal Diocese on 9 May 1948, Bishop Mugenyi was ordained a Priest for Fort Portal Diocese in June 1975.

In January 1999, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Portal and assigned the Titular See of Maximiana in Numidia

As auxiliary Bishop, he first assisted late Bishop Paul Lokiru Kalanda in the pastoral care of the Ugandan Diocese that measures 13,553 Square Kilometers, and since June 2003, Bishop Robert Muhiirwa.
