Officials of the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace (CEJP) in Ivory Coast are calling upon political candidates in the country’s municipal and regional elections to carry out their respective campaigns ahead of the September 2 polls in an atmosphere that fosters fraternity.
On August 25, campaigns for municipal and regional elections kicked-off in Ivory Coast. The regional elections will make it possible to renew the 31 regional councils of the West African nation. The polls are also seen as a test for political forces in the country ahead of the presidential election scheduled for 2025.
In a Tuesday, August 29 statement, CEJP officials say, “On Saturday, September 02, those of you of voting age will be taking part in an important civic duty to elect your regional and municipal councilors.”
“Halfway through the electoral campaign, we would like to remind everyone that politics is a service before the exercise of power,” they add.
CEJP officials continue, “To this end, candidates and their supporters are urged to continue campaigning in a friendly, fraternal atmosphere, to avoid violence in our towns and villages and to ensure that our country enjoys peaceful regional and municipal elections.”
