The Catholic Diocese of Buea in Cameroon has outlined measures to address “existing information gaps” in Parishes and other institutions, including a shift from the use of personal contacts to institutional ones.

In a statement issued Monday, October 2, Bishop Michael Miabesue Bibi of Buea Diocese emphasizes the need to realize “a corporate communication culture” in his Episcopal See.

“Over the years, the Diocese has experienced inconsistencies in the flow of its internal and external communication and this has affected to a certain extent the smooth functioning of some arms of the Diocese,” Bishop Bibi says in his statement shared with ACI Africa.

He continues, “To address this concern, I write to inform you of the institution of a corporate communication culture in the Diocese which aims to bridge the existing information gaps and ensure information consistency in all our Parishes, Institutions and Services.”

Bishop Bibi goes on to direct all “Parish Priests, Heads of Diocesan Institutions and Services to integrate professional communication practices in the exercise of their functions.”

He specifically calls upon all at the helm of Diocesan institutions and facilities “to make use of official means of communication including email addresses and phone numbers, and to shun the use of personal contacts in the exercise of official matters.”

The Cameroonian Catholic Bishop, who started his service in Buea Diocese as Apostolic Administrator after his appointment in December 2019 that was followed by some controversy about his mandate directs heads of Diocesan institutions and facilities to “make available official phone numbers to the Directorate of Communication by October 15th 2023.”

“I equally beseech you to collaborate with the Directorate of Communication which has been assigned to ensure that a corporate communication culture is enjoyed in our Diocese,” he emphasizes.

“May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ in Communion with the Holy Spirit, give you grace and peace,” Bishop Bibi, who started his Episcopal Ministry as Auxiliary Bishop of Cameroon’s Bamenda Archdiocese in March 2017 implores.
