The newly Consecrated Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Maralal in Kenya has committed himself to fostering peace in his Episcopal See.

Leaders of Samburu County in Kenya have pledged to collaborate with the Catholic Diocese of Maralal that covers the Kenyan County in addressing insecurity that involves cattle rustlers and perpetrators of gender-based violence among other actors.

Pope Francis has appointed Mons. Hieronymus Joya as Bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Maralal in Kenya and Mons. Walter Erbì as Apostolic Nuncio to Sierra Leone.

The late Bishop Ambrogio Ravasi who served as the second Bishop of Kenya’s Marsabit Diocese until his retirement in November 2006 is being remembered as a “devout shepherd” and “a man of impeccable character and heroic virtues.”
