New Leaders of Knights and Ladies of Marshall in Liberia Urged to “lead with generosity, spiritual responsibility”

The new leadership of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall in Liberia has been urged to approach their roles with generosity and spiritual responsibility.

In a report shared with ACI Africa on Friday, August 15, the Communication Officer of Council 145, Knights of Marshall in Liberia, describes the August 3 installation of the Order’s 5th State Administration as “a pivotal moment.”

“At the helm of the new leadership is Worthy Brother S. Clarence Borbordee of Council 145, installed as the 5th State Grand Knight,” Wilfred Lawrence D’Souza, Cooperator of the Religious Institute of Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), says in the report.

Joining him is Respected Lady Sis Queenie Daramy of Court 28, installed as State Noble Lady, the premier female position in Liberia’s Order.

Worthy Brother Cllr. Morris Davis of Council 49 and Respected Lady Sister Etta Nyankoon of Court 50 were appointed Deputy State Grand Knight and Deputy State Noble Lady respectively.

In total, 34 officers were inducted into the new State Committee, tasked with promoting the Order’s mission and principles nationwide.

Past State Grand Knight, Worthy Brother Emmanuel Siafa Sr. of Council 131, was honoured with the exalted title of Sir Knight and elevated to Immediate Past State Grand Knight and Past Supreme Knight.

In his homily during the event that was held at Our Lady of Lebanon Parish in Monrovia, the Vicar for Priests in Liberia’s Monrovia Archdiocese noted that authentic leadership stems from service, humility, and faith.

He acknowledged the outgoing leaders' contributions and encouraged all members to “lead with wisdom and spiritual fruitfulness,” preserving the Order's legacy of service to the Church and society.

A high-profile delegation from Ghana, including the Supreme Knight, the Grand Lady, a Past Supreme Knight, and other key officials, graced the occasion, highlighting the Order’s regional significance and deep-rooted bonds across West Africa.

Also speaking during the event, Fr. Peter Kwaku, Parish Priest and Rector of the Salesian Missions in Liberia, celebrated Borbordee’s historic rise, saying, “Today is a great day not only for the Knights and Ladies of Marshall but also for our Parish and the entire Salesian family.”

In his acceptance speech, Borbordee thanked the Salesians and the Knights of Marshall, saying, “This moment is deeply humbling. I stand on the shoulders of many who have served faithfully before me. With God’s help, I will serve with integrity, unity, and a renewed spirit of dedication to our Church, our communities, and the values we hold as Knights and Ladies of Marshall.”

As a devoted Salesian Cooperator from the West Africa South Province (AOS) and a respected leader in Monrovia's Archdiocesan Catholic Church, Borbordee has served on the parish pastoral council and as Chairman of the finance committee. 

He is also an integral part of the Archdiocesan choir and the host parish of Our Lady of Lebanon Church, entrusted to the Salesians of Don Bosco Missionaries.

His appointment is groundbreaking, making him the first from the Salesian family to assume this prestigious position.

The 35th Supreme Knight, Sir Knight Brother Richard Ayih-Akakpo, on his inaugural visit to Liberia, praised the Liberian Marshallans for their commitment: “The field is wide,” he said, urging them to persevere in serving the Lord’s vineyard.

Following the Mass, members paraded six kilometers through Monrovia with the Jr. Marshallan Band, concluding with jubilant festivities at Stella Maris Polytechnic campus.

Hosted by State Communication Officer Kt. Bro. Raymond Zaybay and Respected Regional Noble Lady Sis. Scholastica Nyenkan Nimley, the program concluded with a thanksgiving prayer by State Chaplain Fr. Godfrey Nemah of the Diocese of Cape Palmas.

The Knights of Marshall is a member of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights (IACK) and Unum Omnes, the International Council of Catholic Men, demonstrating their involvement in international Catholic affairs.
