The Local Ordinary of Ghana’s Ho Catholic Diocese has expressed gratitude to Pope Leo XIV for conferring Papal honours on four members of his Episcopal See in recognition of their dedicated service to the Church and humanity.

In a message published on his social media page on Monday, October 13, Bishop Emmanuel Kofi Fianu announces that the four honorees had been admitted into the Order of St. Gregory the Great – one of the highest distinctions the Pope bestows on lay Catholics.

“As we mark the 10th anniversary of my Episcopal Ministry, I am humbled to share joyful news from the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, conveyed through the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency Archbishop Julien Kaobore,” says Bishop Fianu.

He adds, “Four of our devoted faithful—Mr. Ernest Kwame Afla, Mr. Bernard Wisdom Quarshie, Mr. Jonathan Alexis Kofi Torku, and Madam Florence Ofori—have been admitted into the Order of St. Gregory the Great.”

The member of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), who has been at the helm of the Ho Diocese since October 2015, describes the admission into the Order of St. Gregory the Great as “one of the highest papal honors.”

“We rejoice with them and thank the Holy Father for this singular grace bestowed upon our Diocese,” he says in his October 13 message, and adds, “A formal investiture ceremony will be held in due course.”

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian Catholic Church leader has described his 10th Episcopal Anniversary as “a solemn and joyful moment of reflection and renewal.”

“The Grand Durbar was not only a celebration of divine grace and the strides we have made over the past decade but also a clarion call to embrace the next phase of our shared journey with faith and resolve,” says the SVD member in an October 11 message on his Facebook page.

As part of the celebration marking his 10th Episcopal anniversary, Bishop Fianu recalled that on October 10, his Episcopal See had “unveiled the Diocesan NGO—Integrated Sustainability Solutions (ISS), a visionary initiative entrusted with the mandate to drive our developmental aspirations.”

He further noted that the ISS is going to “deepen community engagement and promote sustainable transformation throughout the Diocese.”

In the October 11 message, Bishop Fianu said that the occasion of his 10th Episcopal anniversary rekindled the Diocese’s commitment to the completion of the Cathedral project, “a sacred edifice that stands as a beacon of our faith, unity, and heritage.”

He appealed to the people of God under his pastoral care and beyond to support the completion of the Cathedral “through prayer, partnership, and generous contributions.”

“As we press forward, may we continue to build together, inspired by grace, anchored in purpose, and united in hope—towards a future that reflects the glory of God and the strength of our communion,” Bishop Kofi said.
