Christians in Cameroon must embrace justice as a personal and communal responsibility if the country is to build lasting peace, Bishop Michael Miabesue Bibi of the Catholic Diocese of Buea has said in his 2025 Advent message.

In the message issued on Sunday, November 30, Bishop Bibi said the Advent Season, a period of spiritual preparation for the coming of Christ, calls believers to reflect deeply on justice, integrity, and reconciliation, especially as the nation continues to grapple with post-electoral tensions and social divisions.

“As we begin this Advent Season, a time when we are called to prepare our hearts for the Messiah who is Judge and Prince of Peace, I invite all of us to make justice a shared vocation in our homes, institutions, and nation at large,” the Cameroonian Catholic Bishop said.

He added, “In this season we remember that the prophets longed for a ruler who would establish right order and defend the rights of the poor.”

He recalled the prophetic mandate in Scripture, noting that justice is indispensable to peace and national progress.

“The prophetic voice of Micah resounds with clarity: What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8). This summons is not optional but the heart of Christian life and civic responsibility,” he stated.

Bishop Bibi warned that injustice flourishes through everyday acts of dishonesty and corruption, which gradually erode the moral backbone of society.

“Justice becomes impossible when each person’s due is not given him,” he said, citing bribery, favoritism, and silence in the face of fraud as practices that “harden consciences and give practice to greater injustices.”

He added, “As we prepare for Christmas, and within the context of the post-electoral challenges in our nation, we must seek justice and reconciliation, the only means through which we can have true peace.”

The Catholic Church leader said the Prophet Isaiah's advent image of the “lion and the lamb dwelling together” (Is. 11:6-9) is an invitation for Cameroonians to hope and to work towards building a nation based on Justice and Peace, brought about through Repentance, Reconciliation, Tolerance, Courageous Truth-telling, and Communal reform.

“Let every Christian commit to acts of integrity, demand transparent institutions, and welcome processes of reconciliation,” he said, and added, “I wish you all a grace-filled season of Advent and a Merry Christmas.”

“May the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of the redeemer, intercede for our Diocese and for our country, that justice may flourish and peace endure,” Bishop Bibi implored.
