President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has commended the country’s security agencies for the rescue of 100 children of the 303 individuals who were abducted on November 21 from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri community in Nigeria’s Niger State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all kidnapped persons across the country.

In his Monday, December 8 statement, which was published on Facebook, President Tinubu said he had been fully briefed on the safe return of the 100 children who were taken from the Catholic schools in the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora

He congratulated the Niger State Governor and praised the security agents for what he described as “steadfast work” in reuniting the children with their families.

On November 21, armed gunmen attacked St.Mary’s Schools, abducting 239 nursery and primary school children, 14 secondary school children, and 12 staff members from the private boarding school.

“I rejoice with Governor Umar Bago and commend our security agencies for their steadfast work in ensuring the safe return of the students to their families since the unfortunate incident on November 21,” President Tinubu said.

“My directive to our security forces remains that all the students and other abducted Nigerians across the country must be rescued and brought back home safely. We must account for all the victims,” he added.

Tinubu assured Nigerians of his full support in ensuring sufficient security in all areas of the West African nation.

“The Federal Government will continue to work with Niger State and other states to secure our schools and make the learning environment safer and more conducive for our young ones,” he added.

The President further directed security agencies, in conjunction with state governors, to intensify preventive strategies to stop future attacks, especially in schools.

“From now on, our security agencies, working with the governors, must prevent future kidnappings. Our children should no longer be sitting ducks for heartless terrorists intent on disrupting their education and subjecting them and their parents to unspeakable trauma,” he said.
