Confirmation of DR Congo’s Electoral Commission Head “endorsement of irregularity”: Bishop

The decision by President Félix Tshisekedi to confirm Denis Kadima as the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) despite opposition from the Catholic and Protestant churches amounts to endorsing an “irregularity”, a Catholic Bishop in the Central African nation has said.

Bishops in the southeastern African nation of Malawi have congratulated the country’s newly elected President, Lazarus Chakwera, following his victory in the presidential election rerun of June 23 and hailed various stakeholders in the electoral process for overseeing the poll.

Following months of post-elections unrest in the Southeast African nation of Malawi and a court hearing expected Friday, December 6 on an election petition challenging the May 21 poll, Catholic Bishops in the country have called on the estimated 16.8 million Malawians to accept the court ruling or challenge such outcome through “peaceful and constitutional mechanisms” even though the final verdict is expected in February 2020.
