Archbishop Laurent Birfuoré Dabiré of the Catholic Archdiocese of Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso has called for unity among the people of God in his new Metropolitan See.

In his homily during the February 2 Episcopal Installation and Canonical Possession of Bobo-Dioulasso Archdiocese, Archbishop Dabiré said that he will rely on God’s grace and the “benevolence” of the people of God under his pastoral care.

“I count on the grace of God and on your benevolence to be presented to the Lord, purified, fortified, and consecrated to the mission of being among you as a tireless witness of the joy of the Gospel, being with you, brother, friend, and for you, pastor and guide,” he said.

The Burkinabe Catholic Archbishop underscored the need for unity and collaboration, saying, “I wish that we are a united family where everyone feels recognized, respected, and loved.”

It is his desire, he said, “that the great diversity that characterizes the Archdiocese of Bobo-Dioulasso is not a problem but an asset, a wealth for building a family Church of God, shining with beauty.”

He called upon the people of God under his pastoral care to “be diligent and innovative in sustaining the Church” and ensuring support for all members.

The Burkinabe Catholic Church leader, who started his Episcopal Ministry in May 2013 as Bishop of Dori Diocese said that he strives to align his Episcopal Ministry to Pope Francis' vision in his 2013 Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, that emphasizes the importance of journeying with the people.

“As I have already found you on the march, I will simply join the march – to walk sometimes behind you, because the flock itself has the sense of Christ; sometimes in the middle of you to smell the flock; and sometimes ahead of you to better relaunch and guide the common walk towards its goal, which is Christ,” he explained during the February 2 celebration that was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral of Bobo-Dioulasso Archdiocese.

At his February 2 installation, he pledged to continue the work initiated by his predecessors, including the strengthening of vocations, the formation of the Clergy, and the empowerment of the Laity.

“I propose to the Diocesan family to pay special attention to vocations in general and in particular to Priestly vocations,” the Catholic Church leader said during his installation on February 2, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the temple and the World Day for Consecrated Life.

The newly installed Archbishop described the celebration of the Consecrated as a “significant moment to honor Consecrated Persons in Burkina Faso and Niger.”

“The Church holds in great honor your state of life and invites you to be, after Christ, presented at the Temple, the glory of Israel and the light of nations. In the movement of synodality, take, dear Consecrated Persons, your place without complex in the mission of the Church,” he said.

Archbishop Dabiré also underscored the need for better integration of women and men Religious in the pastoral ministry of the Archdiocese and the formation of the Laity, who need to withstand emerging spiritual and ideological challenges. He also emphasized the need to prioritize family and youth apostolate.

“Let us seek the will of God; let us put ourselves around His mission with hope and serve the Church with all our strength,” the Burkinabe Archbishop said.

“May the Lord bless our prayers of this day by the intercession of Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Saint Joseph, protector of the Church of His Son, who came to save us in the glory of God His Father, now and for centuries to come,” Archbishop Dabiré implored.
