Defend Faith, Correct Misconceptions “using teachings of the Church”: Archbishop in Malawi

“We revere Mary as the Mother of God, not worship her. It's all clear in our Catechism,” the Archbishop who has been at the helm of the Malawian Metropolitan See since November 2021 said.

He called for self-examination and introspection, saying, “Some enemies of the Church are within and inside the individual faithful. Each one of us has to introspect.”

The Local Ordinary of Lilongwe Archdiocese who doubles as the Chairman of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) urged parishioners of the new Parish “to desist from flouting of Church rules and guidelines and divisive behaviors such as bickering and segregation based on background, amongst themselves.”

The member of the Religious Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCD) expressed hope that “peace would be at the center of everything in the new parish guided by Christ himself in whose hands the faithful are only but pens to fulfill His plans.”

“I expect peace and co-existence among you. A parish is unity. I do not expect divisions. I expect that you will all live and worship in your fold,” he said, and added, “A parish is a group of the faithful with Christ as the center of their life,"

He went on to urge parishioners of St. Anthony of Padua Area 25 Parish to “prioritize the poor and make deliberate effort to pay attention to their plight as a fundamental principle of Christian life.”

the Malawian Archbishop who started his Episcopal Ministry in Malawi’s Zomba Diocese in January 2016 said that he expects the parishioners to foster unity in the new Parish and to be “of assistance to the poor and less privileged.”.

Archbishop Tambala appointed and installed Fr. Regis Kamela of the Archdiocese of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe as the first parish Priest of the new parish that brings to 45 the number of Catholic Parishes in the Malawian Archdiocese.
