The 58th annual Gabriel Awards saw EWTN, the world’s largest Catholic media organization, win five awards in multiple categories.

The winner of this year’s Opus Prize worth US$1 million, Sr. Catherine Mutindi Kivutui, has returned to her ministry in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where she oversees the running of Bon Pasteur (Good Shepherd) Kolwezi, the apostolate she founded in 2012 in Lualaba Province, south of DRC with the objective of ending child labor.

Less than a year since the Kenyan Franciscan Brother Peter Tabichi became the first African to win the Global Teacher Prize 2019, the science teacher was, last week, crowned 2019 United Nations (UN) in Kenya Person of the Year Prize. In March, the Franciscan Brother was recognized for his determination and hard work in promoting education and promoting achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The latest recognition puts him among 16 select people who have been so far named UN Persons of the Year since 2002. In an exclusive interview with ACI Africa Friday, November 1, Bro. Various personalities who have been supporting a Catholic newspaper in Nigeria, The Catholic Star, were celebrated and awarded at an event last Friday where the publication was also recognized “the overall best Catholic newspaper in the country,” Nigerian Spiritan priest Fr. Kuha Indyer who was part of the event reported.
