The Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, the last of four papal basilicas for the Jubilee of Hope, will be sealed shut.
As Pope Leo XIV closes the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica on Jan. 6, the feast of the Epiphany, and the 2025 Jubilee Year comes to an end, the Catholic Church begins to anticipate another jubilee — one that will mark 2,000 years since Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.
Pope Leo XIV marked the Jubilee of Catechists on Saturday, urging practitioners of the Church’s lay teaching ministry to hand on the faith.

The Holy Father in his Wednesday audience said St. Mark’s Gospel shows us that Jesus’ love for his disciples “is not the result of chance but of a conscious choice.”
Pope Leo XIV announced that the dates of the next World Youth Day, to be held in Seoul, South Korea, will be Aug. 3–8, 2027.
Pope Leo XIV on Tuesday participated in the Mass celebrated in St. Peter’s Basilica on the occasion of the Jubilee of Digital Missionaries and Catholic Influencers.
“You are not only influencers, you are also missionaries,” Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle said during a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica on July 29.
“With their spiritual enthusiasm and vitality, [migrants] can help revitalize ecclesial communities that have become rigid and weighed down,” Pope Leo XIV noted July 25.
“Young people will never experience this in their lives again. I’m sure of it. In practice, it will be like a World Youth Day,” Father Alfredo Tedesco explained.
The Vatican has announced Pope Leo XIV’s public Mass schedule for August and September, following his current stay through July 20 at Castel Gandolfo.
The event was organized by the Vatican Dicastery for the Clergy with the theme taken from St. John’s Gospel: “I have called you friends.”
On June 24, Pope Leo XIV urged hundreds of seminarians from around the world to bear witness to the “tenderness” and “mercy” of Christ.
More than 6,000 seminarians, bishops, and priests from five continents are in Rome this week to celebrate their jubilee as part of the Holy Year 2025.
The document was presented at the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences on June 20 as one of the main initiatives of the 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope.
Pope Leo urged political leaders from around the world to promote the common good, warning especially of the threat to human dignity from artificial intelligence.
The solemnity coincided with the June 14–15 Jubilee of Sport, where Pope Leo XIV asked pilgrims who belong to sports teams and associations to glorify God.
